Amazon plans 7,000 new jobs in the UK

Amazon is planning to create 7,000 new jobs in the UK.

The online retail firm has already added 3,000 roles so far in 2020, but the company is now looking for even more new members of staff amid rising demand from consumers.

Amazon said in a statement: "At the center of the job creation program are three new, state-of-the-art fulfilment centers in Darlington, Durham and Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, each fitted out with advanced Amazon Robotics technology and each creating more than 1,000 new permanent roles.

"Construction of these new fulfilment centres began last year. Darlington started operations in May and the sites in Durham and Sutton-in-Ashfield will launch later this autumn."

Last month, meanwhile, Jeff Bezos became the first person to be worth $200 billion.

The Amazon CEO reached the milestone when it was revealed that his net worth rocketed by $4.9 billion, as the firm's stock rose by two percent.

Bezos is now worth $204.6 billion, which means he's worth a whopping $90 billion more than Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, who is worth $116.1 billion, according to Forbes.
