Report: Saints Sign Kamara to Extension

The New Orleans Saints and Alvin Kamara have come to an agreement on an extension for the 25-year-old running back. Kamara was heading into the final year of his rookie contract before the deal was finalized today.

As reported by Ian Rapoport moments ago, Kamara has reached a 5-year deal for $75 million which includes a $15 million signing bonus. He will make nearly $2.4 million this season.

Kamara was drafted in the third round (67 overall) in 2017 out of Tennessee. In his three seasons for the Saints, Kamara has 4,476 yards from scrimmage and 37 touchdowns (37 rushing, 10 receiving). He has also been quite consistent in the passing game, catching exactly 81 passes in each of those three years.

Loomis and the Offense

Kamara is a big part of what the Saints do on offense as they are a screen-heavy team. With Latavius Murray able to take some of the pounding up the middle off of Kamara’s shoulders, expect the Saints to continue to involve Kamara heavily in their aerial attack.

Again, Mickey Loomis manages to be a magician with the salary cap. Somehow he continues to find money to keep his star players in the Big Easy. After signing Michael Thomas last year to an extension, he gets the deal done to bring back another of his big names.
