Over 15 million Nintendo Switches have been sold in Japan

Over 15 million Nintendo Switches have been sold in Japan.

The console has proved to be a hit with Nintendo fans, and sales have soared over the past few months (likely due to many people self-isolating due to the coronavirus pandemic).

The Nintendo Switch has proved to be especially popular in Japan: as the original version and the Lite version have reportedly now sold over 15 million units combined!

According to sales data from Famitsu, the sales of both versions of the Switch combined is now over 15,073,025 in Japan.

This beats the Japanese sales of the Nintendo Wii (approximately 12.75 million units), PlayStation 3 (approximately 10.47 million units ), and PlayStation 4 (approximately 9.22 million units).

However, the Switch hasn't claimed the number one spot for the highest-selling console in Japan quite yet: it's currently in fifth place.

The Switch is currently behind the PlayStation 2 (approximately 21,454,325 have been sold in Japan), Nintendo's 3DS handheld consoles (which have sold 25.26 million units),

as well as the DS consoles (which have around 32.99 million sales), and the iconic Game Boy range of consoles (which top the list with 32.47 million units being sold),
