Live-action adaptions of video game properties are very risky. This is mainly due to the fact that there has rarely ever been one that turned out to be successful. Most live-action movies that are based on video game properties have received overwhelmingly negative reviews from critics, even more so than any original movies that have been released in the past. This includes movies like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, Double Dragon and Super Mario Bros. There are certain movies based on video game properties that have received decent reviews as of recently like Detective Pikachu and Sonic the Hedgehog. However, there has still not been a video game movie that received truly amazing reviews. Nevertheless, there are still companies that want to try and make a spectacular adaptation of a video game in live action. One particular example that seems to be in the works is a television series based on The Legend of Zelda franchise.

It was recently rumored that actor Tom Holland would be portraying the main protagonist Link in the upcoming series. While no further information has been revealed regarding that, fans are very excited at the possibility of Holland portraying the iconic video game character. Known for his portrayal of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, many believe Holland to have the perfect amount of charisma and energy for the role of Link.

The upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda series has been reported to premiere on the streaming service Netflix, with fans hopeful at the possibilities of a live-action Legend of Zelda series after The Witcher, another live-action television series primarily based off a popular video game proved to be successful. It is not clear on exactly when this series will come out on Netflix, but it still holds a number of possibilities on how the well the franchise can be portrayed in live action once it airs.
