G2's Valorant team full of former Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players is steamrolling the competition, while the organization's actual CSGO team has struggled.

Nobody knew how well CSGO players would transition to Valorant when it released, but G2 Esports' Valorant roster has seen former CSGO pro players shine. All five players on G2's roster jumped at the chance to ditch Counter-Strike for Valorant, and their tournament results have completely blown the organization's CSGO roster out of the water. While Kenny "KennyS" Schrub and his teammates haven't had much luck over CSGO's summer tournaments, G2 Valorant has come in first place at every event it has attended.

Even though the team dropped a "Best in the West" showmatch to Liquid on September 27, it's won almost $100,00 dollars since July. And G2 Valorant has done this with matches full of plays like pyth's textbook four-kill round above.

Is G2's Valorant team better than its CSGO roster?

Unfortunately for CSGO fans, yes. And it doesn't help that all five of G2's Valorant players started their careers in Counter-Strike.

G2 started by signing ex-CSGO AWPer Óscar "mixwell" Cañellas as the organization's first Valorant player, G2's more famous CSGO roster dropped the ball. G2 then added another CSGO player in ex-Ninjas in Pyjamas rifler Jacob "pyth" Mourujärvi. Three more players followed, each one lured away from CSGO by Valorant's shiny new shooter. Now, G2 has turned out to be Valorant's best and most impressive team.

But at the same time mixwell and company were flying high in Valorant, G2's CSGO team floundered.

G2's CSGO squad has only played in a trio of tournaments since July, but all have ended disastrously for the French roster. G2's 2020 initially looked promising when its CSGO roster nabbed a top finish at BLAST Premier Spring and a pair of second-place finishes at IEM Katowice 2020 and ESL's Road to Rio, respectively. But with a new season and online matches came signs of inconsistency as CSGO headed into the summer season. G2's 2-0 loss to FaZe in the Gamers Without Borders showmatch in May didn't mean much at the time, but it was a sign of things to come.

While G2 Valorant racked up hefty cash prizes, G2 CSGO headed in a different direction.

G2's CSGO roster struggles over summer tournaments

Despite fielding an experienced team under young in-game leader Nemanja "nexa" Isaković, the roster can't get out of its own way. With G2's founder Carlos "ocelote" Santiago telling ESPN Esports that it is only a matter of time before Valorant overtakes CSGO on the world stage, his CSGO squad might want to perk up.

"In Counter-Strike, all you have going for you is the mechanics... In two years, Valorant will be [a] top-five [esport]. Counter-Strike will be top-eight," ocelote said.

With G2's Valorant wins just as clear as its recent CSGO failures, ocelot's comments might end up as the first signs that Riot took on Valve's defining online shooter and won.
