K-Pop Group Blackpink Presents Long-Awaited First Studio Album

K-Pop group Blackpink released their long-awaited first studio album titled "The Album," which includes collaborations with American artists Selena Gómez and Cardi B and comes after a succession of hits, singles and mini-albums.

The female quartet's first full-length album includes "Ice Cream" and "How You Like That," two previews of the album released in recent months that entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart and whose video clips each add up to more than 300 million views on YouTube.

In "The Album," the album has tried to "express various emotions related to love" and to "show girls who have grown up," according to what the South Korean singer and dancer Jennie, one of the members of the group, said in a virtual press conference.

Jisoo, another of the members, highlighted the "great honor" that has been collaborating with American stars, noting that working with artists of that level "helps to give another angle" to their creations.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the group will not carry out a tour for the moment accompanying the release of the album as it was initially planned, although it hopes to be able to return to the stage soon.

"It is very sad that we cannot perform live in front of our fans, but we hope to do a tour when the situation is safer," said Lisa, a Thai national, who completed training with the New Zealander of South Korean origin Rosé.

The band debuted in 2016 and since then it has become a global phenomenon at the height of boy group BTS, another of the current great references of K-pop.

Previous collaborations with other superstars such as Lady Gaga, with whom Blackpink recorded the song "Sour Candy," which was part of "Chromatica," the sixth album by the New York artist released last May, have contributed to this meteoric trajectory.

Blackpink's representation company, YG Entertainment, reported that "The Album" has received more than 1 million pre-release reservations, adding that if all these sales are confirmed during its first week on the market, the album will become the biggest bestseller in K-pop history in that period.
