Rogue brought play-in standouts PSG Talon back to earth in their opening games of the 2020 League of Legends World Championship group stage.
PSG Talon had to maintain the momentum it gained from a spectacular play-ins stage, where the team managed to qualify directly despite playing with substitutes. LEC second seed Rogue was PSG's first opponent and also the easiest on paper for the PCS team.
Rogue was the one to pick an early game composition, by locking in Lucian for the mid lane and Evelynn in the jungle. It was important for Rogue to get the ball rolling early, which happened by camping the returning PSG Talon mid laner Park “Tank” Dan-won.
Rogue managed to snowball in the game beautifully, showing their critics that they can play a fast-paced game, even though they have been known to be slower and more subdued in the LEC. Rogue will have to keep up the tempo if they want to compete with DAMWON Gaming and JD Gaming in the group.
Rogue picks up the pace in Worlds 2020
The aggressive playstyle from Rogue was a breath of fresh air, as Rogue has trended towards scaling compositions throughout the LEC season. With Emil “Larssen” Larsson on Lucian and Kacper “Inspired” Słoma on Evelynn, the two debutants got the perfect start on the international stage.
In the top lane, Finn “Finn” Wiestål countered the whole PSG Talon comp by picking Malphite. The rock-solid champion is great against attack damage-heavy compositions, which countered PSG Talon's Renekton, Graves, and Senna. Malphite also punished the lack of mobility on PSG’s side.
The early game was assisted by the more experienced bot lane of Steven “Hans Sama” Liv and Oskar “Vander” Bogdan, who put their own laning phase at risk by roaming mid to get kills. Luckily, it worked out great and showed that Rogue is playing with a lot of confidence.
Rogue will be up against both DAMWON and JDG in the upcoming games, so they will have to keep up the confident and aggressive play to stand a chance.
PSG Talon not finding momentum with full roster at Worlds 2020
After an impressive performance in the play-in stage, PSG Talon got a reality check in its first game of the main event. The complete roster is finally back after quarantine issues, but the team is not looking as sharp as before.
It’s worrying for PSG Talon if they can’t perform as well with their full roster, since they will be up against tough opponents. On paper, Rogue was the easiest opponent and a team that PSG had to beat.
PSG will have to pick it up from here and find a solution for their sloppy early game. Tank and jungler Kim “River” Dong-woo will also need to adapt to the international stage, after sitting on the sidelines throughout the play-in stage.
Rogue will take on DAMWON on October 5, while PSG Talon will be up against JDG.
