The Philadelphia Eagles faced the San Francisco 49ers in a Week 4 Sunday Night Football matchup. The Eagles came into the game 0-2-1 on the season, while the 49ers entered Week 4 with a 2-1 record after defeating the New York Jets and Giants on the road. The 49ers roster has been heavily depleted due to numerous injuries, but this week George Kittle and Deebo Samuel found themselves back on the field. However, the 49ers couldn’t secure the victory and the Eagles won their first game this season, 25-20.
First Half
Both teams went three and out in their opening drives and on the Eagles’ second drive, Carson Wentz threw an interception, giving the 49ers early possession of the ball.
San Francisco failed to capitalize on the turnover, and Philadelphia responded with the first points on the board. Wentz rushed the ball for the 11-yard touchdown score and the Eagles converted the two-point conversion for an early 8-0 lead.
San Francisco answered on the next drive to put a touchdown of their own on the board when Nick Mullens threw a backward pass to Brandon Aiyuk, who took it 38 yards for the score with just 21 seconds left on the clock.
Philadelphia had possession of the ball when the first quarter ended, but couldn’t convert their first drive into any points. The 49ers also were unable to put any points on the board in their first drive of the second quarter.
The 49ers’ defense was able to keep the Eagles from putting any points up on their next drive. However, the Eagles’ defensive line forced a 49ers turnover, when Rodney McLeod intercepted the pass and took it back for a 21-yard return.
The Eagles attempted to capitalize on the turnover. However, following the two-minute warning, Wentz fumbled the ball but recovered it. He was then sacked on the next drive for a loss of seven yards. Consequently, Jalen Hurts replaced Wentz on the last play of the drive. The Eagles kept the one-point lead going into halftime.
Second Half
The 49ers opened the second half of the game with possession of the ball and converted their opening drive into a touchdown score. Mullens found Kittle for the five-yard touchdown pass and the 49ers took the lead, 14-8, with eight and half minutes left to play in the third.
Philadelphia kept possession of the ball for nearly the rest of the third quarter and ended it with a 35-yard field goal by Jake Elliott.
The 49ers started the fourth with possession of the ball but did not produce any points on the opening drive. The Eagles were also unable to convert on their opening drive.
San Francisco’s next drive ended with a turnover after Mullens, who was sacked by Cre’von LeBlanc, fumbled the ball and Malik Jackson recovered it for the Eagles. Philadelphia capitalized on the turnover when Wentz connected with Travis Fulgham on a 42-yard pass and took it eight more yards for the score.
The Eagles took the lead, 18-14, with four minutes left to play.
Mullens threw his second interception of the night in the next drive and Alex Singleton took the ball to the end zone for a 30-yard touchdown, extending the Eagles’ lead to nine points and the score at 25-14.
Kyle Shanahan pulled Mullens on the next drive and put C.J. Beathard in at quarterback. The move proved beneficial when Jerick McKinnon rushed the ball for the one-yard touchdown score. The 49ers attempted the two-point conversion, but it failed. The score was 25-20 and would remain unchanged as the last two minutes ticked off the clock.

The Eagles will travel to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers in Week 5 and the 49ers will face the Miami Dolphins in another home game.
