Miller to play on TNF, Evans a game-time call

The Buccaneers expect wide receiver Scotty Miller (hip/groin) to play on Thursday night, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. However, Mike Evans‘s status isn’t as clear. He’s expected to work out his ankle during pre-game warmups to determine whether or not he’ll be able to play. The growing sense is that he’ll be active at less than 100 percent, but the official word on his injury remains to be delivered.

Patriots report no new positive COVID tests

The Patriots received a clean slate of negative tests from Wednesday’s analysis, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN. As of now, the three Patriots players who tested positive are quarterback Cam Newton, cornerback Stephon Gilmore, and practice squad defensive lineman Bill Murray.

12th, 13th Titans players test positive

The Titans received their 13th positive case of COVID-19 on Thursday morning, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Additionally, the team received word that their 12th positive case was confirmed after originally being deemed inconclusive. The 11 known players to test positive are defensive linemen Jeffery Simmons and DaQuan Jones, long snapper Beau Brinkley, tight end Tommy Hudson, outside linebacker Kamalei Correa, fullback Khari Blasingame, cornerbacks Kristian Fulton and Greg Mabin, wide receivers Corey Davis, Adam Humphries, and Cameron Batson. Expect to receive word on who the two new cases are later today.

Second opinion confirms Ekeler’s injury

Chargers running back Austin Ekeler (hamstring) received a second opinion recently and is still expected to miss at least one month. Joshua Kelley and Justin Jackson will share the backfield workload in the meantime, while the Chargers also hosted free agent Kalen Ballage for a visit.

Wednesday, Oct. 7

49ers hope Sherman can return in Week 6

The 49ers are optimistic and hoping that cornerback Richard Sherman (calf) can return in Week 6, though the team is being cautious, according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports.

Breshad Perriman to be inactive?

The Jets are expected to rule out Breshad Perriman (ankle) in Week 5, marking the third straight game for which he is inactive.

Jamal Adams ruled out

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said star safety Jamal Adams (groin) will not play in the team’s Week 5 game against Minnesota. The Seahawks have a bye in Week 6, leaving extra time for him to recover after initially suffering the injury in Week 3.

Corey Davis lands on COVID-19 list

The Titans’ outbreak continues with Corey Davis becoming the third Tennessee receiver to test positive for COVID-19. The team has 11 confirmed cases.

Schultz to play in Week 5?

Cowboys tight end Dalton Schultz suffered a bruised thigh late in Sunday’s game against Cleveland but isn’t in danger of missing this week’s battle with the Giants, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.

Fant doubtful, Lock in practice

Broncos head coach Vic Fangio said he does not expect Noah Fant (ankle) to play Week 5 in New England, opening the door for rookie tight end Albert Okweugbunam in the passing game. Meanwhile, Lock (shoulder) returned to practice, though his official status remains in doubt.

Broncos rule out K.J. Hamler

Rookie receiver K.J. Hamler won’t take the field this week against New England. The Broncos have already ruled him out for Week 5 with a hamstring injury. DaeSean Hamilton will surely see extra reps alongside Jerry Jeudy and Tim Patrick amidst Hamler’s absence.

Budda Baker to play Sunday

The Cardinals expect to have safety Budda Baker back this week after he underwent surgery on a torn thumb ligament.

Dwayne Haskins won’t play in Week 5

The Browns have placed wide receiver and special teams weapon KhaDarel Hodge on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. He’ll miss at least three weeks.

Josiah Deguara tears ACL

The Packers’ offense was dealt a painful blow on Monday as an MRI revealed that rookie tight end Josiah Deguara tore his ACL on Monday. He’s done for the year.

Pair of defensive linemen placed on COVID-19 list

Patriots practice squad defensive lineman Bill Murray and Raiders defensive lineman Maurice Hurst Jr. were placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, meaning they either tested positive or were in contact with someone who tested positive.

Humphries unlikely to play this week

Titans wide receiver Adam Humphries is expected to be inactive in Week 5 after testing positive for COVID-19 last week.

Fournette to be game-time decision

Buccaneers running back Leonard Fournette (ankle) is expected to be a game-time decision, though his status is surely in doubt after he did not participate in practice on Monday or Tuesday. The Buccaneers will have to list him as questionable, doubtful, or out by the end of the day Wednesday because they play on Thursday night, leaving Fournette’s status in serious doubt. If he can’t go, Ronald Jones and rookie Ke’Shawn Vaughn will see extra involvement in the ground game.

Ezekiel Ansah done for season

Ziggy Ansah‘s time in San Francisco lasted less than two weeks. The defensive end suffered a torn bicep on Sunday and will land on season-ending IR.

Diontae Johnson clears concussion protocol

Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson cleared the concussion protocol and is on track to play a significant role in Pittsburgh’s Week 5 game against the Eagles.

Cam Robinson good to go?

Jaguars offensive lineman Cam Robinson received positive news on Tuesday as an MRI determined his knee suffered no serious damage. Robinson exited Sunday’s game against the Bengals.

K’Waun Williams has ACL sprain

49ers cornerback K’Waun Williams is dealing with an ACL sprain. Although he won’t miss the rest of the season, he’s a likely candidate for placement on short-term IR.

Damontae Kazee done for season

Falcons safety Damontae Kazee tore his Achilles on Monday night against Green Bay and is done for the season. This is a devastating blow for a defensive unit that was already one of the league’s worst.

Joe Looney to miss time

The Cowboys expect center Joe Looney (knee) to miss time, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. While he likely won’t be placed on IR, this injury hurts the Cowboys, whose O-line depth is already suffering.

Sam Darnold could miss Week 5

Austin Ekeler to miss at least one month

Chargers running back Austin Ekeler underwent an MRI on Monday. The testing confirmed the offensive weapon suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain, forcing him to miss at least four weeks.

Nick Chubb lands on IR

The Cleveland Browns placed running back Nick Chubb on injured reserve with an MCL injury. He’ll miss roughly six weeks.

Kenyan Drake not injured

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Cardinals running back Kenyan Drake (chest) merely had the wind knocked out of him on Sunday. He was able to avoid a serious injury.

Le’Sean McCoy battling ankle sprain

The Buccaneers’ running back depth has taken a sudden hit with Leonard Fournette and Le’Sean McCoy both battling ankle injuries. Their Week 5 statuses are suddenly in doubt. Wide receiver Chris Godwin (hamstring) is also expected to miss Week 5 after he did not practice on Monday.

Larry Ogunjobi, Nick Chubb to undergo testing on Monday

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski announced that MRIs will be conducted on defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi (abdomen) and running back Nick Chubb (knee) on Monday. There is optimism regarding Chubb, though, as the team is optimistic their star running back did not suffer a serious knee injury, according to Pro Football Talk.

Austin Ekeler to miss multiple weeks?

While MRIs have yet to be completed, the Los Angeles Chargers’ initial fear is that running back Austin Ekeler suffered a hamstring strain and hyperextended knee on Sunday against the Buccaneers, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. If confirmed, the Chargers would likely place Ekeler on IR, forcing him to miss at least three weeks.

Arians provides updates on Howard, Fournette, Godwin

Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians announced that tight end O.J. Howard ruptured his Achilles on Sunday and is done for the season. He added that wide receiver Chris Godwin (hamstring) likely won’t be ready for the team’s Week 5 game on Thursday night while running back Leonard Fournette‘s (ss) status remains up in the air.
