Mariah Carey says her life was 'controlled' in the 90s

Mariah Carey says her life was “controlled” in the early years of her fame.

The 50-year-old singer has claimed she didn’t have much freedom during the first few years of her career as a chart-topping sensation, and has said she was often prevented from answering questions in interviews by people from her record label, whom she alleges “scrutinised” her entire life.

Mariah began to get her freedom back following her split from her first husband and with her 1997 album ‘Butterfly’, she finally started to “enjoy” talking to the press.
