Normani has revealed her mum's cancer has returned

Normani has revealed her mother's cancer has returned.

The 24-year-old singer's mum Andrea Hamilton took to Instagram over the weekend as she shared a picture of a rosary with a defiant caption about once again battling the disease.

She wrote: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I did it once and I'll do it again! #CancerWho (sic)"

The former Fifth Harmony star added some words of encouragement underneath her mother's photo, describing Andrea as her "warrior" and the "strongest woman" she knows.

She also reshared her mum's post, adding: "We got this mommy."

Taking to Twitter, she later added: "F*** cancer."

Andrea was first diagnosed with breast cancer when Normani was around five years old, and the star described it as "the scariest point in all of our lives".

Speaking in 2018, Andrea revealed: "I didn't know much about breast cancer, and though I was always educated by my doctors to do my self breast exams and everything, I took it for granted.

"You can kind of turn a blind eye until it actually happens to you. I was about 33 years old and I wasn't doing my breast exams on a regular basis.

"I don't know what it was but something told me to check that day that I found the lump. I immediately went to the doctor. By doing my own self breast exam I caught it at an early stage."

Meanwhile, Normani - who is yet to release her debut solo album - previously confessed to feeling under pressure from her fans, revealing she's conscious that her first record could define her career.

She said: "There’s so much expectation that I have for myself, so adding [fans’ expectations] onto that can be a lot, but it really does motivate me.

"I really want to create a body of work that’s going to count, you know? I’m never going to get my first album back."

Despite this, Normani sees her music as secondary to her ultimate ambition to "change lives".

She explained: "Honestly, for me, it’s bigger than the music.

"As much as I love what I do, I want to change lives and I want to reach as many people as I can. I feel like that’s the difference between doing something that you love and also having purpose. I want to tell our stories and, like I said, be a representation that black girls can do anything ... I feel like it’s my calling."
