id Software co-founder settles ‘Doom’ name debate

id Software’s co-founder has seemingly settled a long-running debate amongst the ‘Doom’ fandom.

The first ‘Doom’ game came out in 1993, and ever since there has been a debate in the franchise’s fanbase about the protagonist: what actually is his name?

There have been several popular suggestions, with many ‘Doom’ fans simply referring to the main character as ‘Doomguy’.

A Twitter user asked developer id Software’s co-founder John Romero after the character’s actual name, stating: “I still want to know if Doom Guy's name is B.J. Blazkowicz, Flynn Taggart, John Kane, or what?”

Romero responded by simply writing: “Doom Guy's name is Doom Guy”, so it turns out that the most simple guess by fans was the correct one, although Romero writes it as two separate words instead of one.

The video game franchise is as popular as ever, and fans will soon have more ‘Doom’ content to enjoy, since ‘Doom Eternal’s first DLC (titled ‘The Ancient Gods: Part One’) is being released on October 20th.
