The 2020 World Champoinship is about to enter its playoff stage, and as fans eagerly await the results, Gen.G's star player is basking in the moment.
Bot laner Park "Ruler" Jae-hyuk has already seen great success in his pro League of Legends career. Ruler is a former world champion, having won a title at the 2017 World Championship with Samsung Galaxy. But after a disappointing performance at Worlds 2018 and missing the event entirely last year, Ruler is looking to better appreciate his time on the game's biggest stage.
With his team preparing for a quarterfinals appearance versus G2 Esports, Ruler took some time to speak to our partners at wanplus to discuss how he and his team are doing.
Q: What have you and your teammates been doing, given all of the restrictions placed on you?
Ruler: During [this time], players chat with each other online, made jokes to each other through cameras, and we eat a lot of nice food, which is fun.
Are there any rookie players who have impressed you at Worlds 2020 so far?
Suning bot laner Tang "huanfeng" Huan-Feng. I've watched his games and I think that he is promising. I am looking forward to playing against him in the future.
A lot of fans are worried about your health. How is your physical condition now?
It has been much better lately, so please don't worry too much about me. I will take good care of myself and try not to let my condition get any worse. Don't worry about it now. Please just cheer for us.
A lot of fans say that they get nervous when watching Gen.G matches. Do you have any words for them?
There are always a lot of moments of tension in our games, but it's fun to watch those [tense] games, right? So, we will have a little more fun and make it even more intense.
What are your goals now for the 2020 World Championship?
We have made it to the quarterfinals. It is better to take care of what's in front of us first than to set ambitious goals. We will do our best to win the quarterfinal [versus G2] and advance to the semifinals.
