World Cup Qualifiers: Argentina Defeat Bolivia & More

South American national teams are competing to book a place in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

On Wednesday, Argentina defeated Bolivia 2-1. Bolivia’s M. Moreno scored the opening goal for his side, but then Argentina’s Lautaro Martinez scored to equalize the score. In the last minutes of the game, substitute Joaquin Correa scored the winning goal for Argentina.

Ecuador surprised Uruguay by winning 4-2. Ecuador’s Moises Caciedo scored the first goal of the game for his side followed by two goals from M. Estrada and a late goal from G. Plata. Uruguay tried to make a late comeback in the game, with Luis Suarez scoring two penalties in the last minutes.

Peru and Brazil faced off in a controversial fixture. Brazil was awarded two penalties scored by Neymar and one player from the Peru team was sent off. Brazil eventually took three points after winning 4-2.

Columbia and Chile’s fixture ended with a draw, 2-2. Colombia’s Jefferson Lerma scored the first goal in the early minutes of the game. Chile’s Arturo Vidal scored a penalty to equalize the score. A few minutes later, Chile’s Alexis Sanchez scored to give his side an advantage. Columbian star Radamel Falcao scored the equalizer for his side in the dying minutes of the game.

Paraguay defeated Venezuela 1-0, after a late goal from Gaston Gimenez.

Brazil and Argentina have both won their two opening fixtures. Currently, the Brazil national team is on top of the table, followed by Argentina, Colombia, Paraguay, Ecuador, Uruguay, Chile, Peru, Venezuela and lastly Bolivia.

The World Cup qualifiers are not done yet. There are still remaining matches between the South American national teams that will determine which teams will qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Teams like Brazil and Argentina are definitely favorites to qualify, but everything can happen in football.
