Virgil Van Dijk Suffers ACL Injury

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - FEBRUARY 27: Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool celebrates after scoring his team's fifth goal during the Premier League match between Liverpool FC and Watford FC at Anfield on February 27, 2019 in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Liverpool and Netherlands defender Virgil Van Dijk suffered an ACL injury and will undergo surgery.
Van Dijk came off injured after clashing with Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford during the early minutes of Liverpool’s fixture against Everton. After the game, scans revealed that the player suffered an ACL injury, which will sideline him for months and can possibly end his football season.
When Van Dijk came off injured during the game, there was a lot of controversy around whether Pickford should have received a red card, which he didn’t, for his challenge on the Dutch defender.
Van Dijk is one of the best defenders in the world and one of the most important players for Liverpool. His loss will be a big worry for head coach Jurgen Klopp and could possibly affect the club’s Premier League and UEFA Champions League chances.

During the derby fixture against Everton, Van Dijk was not the only player who was injured. Liverpool’s Thiago Alcantara was injured after a clash with Everton player Richarlison in the last minutes of the game. Because of this tough challenge, Richarlison was sent off afterwards. However, Alcantara’s injury is reportedly not as serious as Van Dijk’s, but the midfielder might sit out for a few games.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is also recovering from an injury and is expected to return to the team soon. Adrian San Miguel is filling in as Liverpool’s goalkeeper.

The fixture against Everton ended with a draw, 2-2. Liverpool’s Sadio Mane scored the first goal, followed by Everton’s Michael Keane. Then, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah scored to give his side an advantage, but then Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored a header to equalize the score.
Liverpool is set to face Ajax in UEFA Champions League on 10/21 and Sheffield United in the Premier League on 10/24.
