Chicago Bears Javon Wims Suspended for Two Games

Chicago Bears receiver Javon Wims was suspended by the NFL for two games on Monday for violating unsportsmanlike conduct rules during Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints.

During the third quarter, Wims approached Saints safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson and punched him twice in the helmet. The broadcast of the game showed Gardner-Johnson ripping out Wims’s mouthguard. Wims told the team that Gardner-Johnson had spit on him, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Wims was ejected from the game immediately. Gardner-Johnson denied spitting on Wims.

“It ain’t got nothing to do with me. If he’s acting out, that’s on him,” Gardner-Johnson said. “It wasn’t no incident. We won the game. I mean, everybody, it’s a lot of he said, he said. Ain’t nothing happened. Nobody got spit on.”

After the game, Gardner-Johnson wrote on Instagram that Wims punches like a girl. This season Wims has five receptions for 35 yards and a touchdown. Wims is appealing the suspension.
