Huawei reportedly plans to make chips without using American technology

Huawei reportedly plans to make chips at a Shanghai plant without using American technology.

The Financial Times reports that the Chinese-owned firm will start building their own low-end 45nm chips.

The tech giant is also planning to build 28nm chips for “Internet of things” devices by the end of next year, and 20nm chips for 5G equipment by late 2022.

It's also claimed that the proposed plant would be overseen by the research company, the Shanghai IC R&D Center, which is backed by the government.

Meanwhile, in September Huawei announced its plans to bring HarmonyOS to smartphones.
