Nintendo announce impressive sales figures

Nintendo shipped 6.86 million Switch consoles between July and September this year.

The gaming giant has announced that sales increased by more than 40 percent year-on-year, thereby hitting the 68.3 million mark after launching in 2017.

The Switch figures also represent an improvement from the previous quarter, when 5.68 million units were shipped.

'Animal Crossing: New Horizons' continues to be hugely popular among gamers, with more than three and a half million units moving in the latest quarter.

Other notable successes during the latest quarter included 'Super Mario 3D All-Stars' and 'Paper Mario: The Origami King', which sold 5.21 million and 2.82 million units, respectively.

As a result of the impressive figures, Nintendo has raised its outlook for the financial year, reporting it expects to make 450 billion yen in operating profit by the end of March next year.

If that does come to pass, it'll represent a 50 percent increase from the 300 billion yen figure it forecast earlier this year.

Nintendo is also anticipating selling 24 million Switch consoles during the financial year, having increased its estimate from the original figure of 19 million.
