Japan logs 1.66 tril. yen current account surplus in Sept.

Japan posted a current account surplus of 1.66 trillion yen ($15.8 billion) in September, marking the 75th straight month of black ink, government data showed Tuesday.

Among key components, the country had a goods trade surplus of 918.4 billion yen and a services trade deficit of 237.4 billion yen, according to a preliminary report released by the Finance Ministry.

Primary income, which reflects returns on overseas investments, registered a surplus of 1.71 trillion yen.

For the April-September period, Japan ran a current account surplus of 6.69 trillion yen.
