During Matchday five of the UEFA Nations League, teams in League A were competing for the top spot in their group to proceed to the next round of the competition.
In Group 1, Italy defeated Poland, 2-0. Italy’s Jorginho scored an early penalty and then in the second half, Poland’s Jacek Goralski was sent off. Shortly after Goralski’s red card, Italy’s Domenico Berardi scored the second goal.
Also in Group 1, the Netherlands defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina, 3-1. Netherlands’ Gini Wijnaldum scored two early goals followed by a second-half goal from Memphis Depay. Then, Bosnia’s Smail Prevljak scored the only goal for his side. Italy is currently on top of group one followed by the Netherlands, Poland and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In Group 2, Belgium defeated England, 2-0 with first-half goals from Youri Tielemans and Dries Mertens. Denmark defeated Iceland, 2-1 with Christian Eriksen scoring two penalties and Iceland’s Viðar Örn Kjartansson scoring one goal. Belgium is currently on top of group 2 followed by Denmark, Iceland and Finland.
In Group 3, France defeated reigning UEFA Nations League champions Portugal, 1-0. France’s N’Golo Kante scored a goal in the second half. After this victory, France is expected to advance to the second round of the competition.
Also in Group 3, Sweden defeated Croatia 2-1. Sweden’s Dejan Kulusevski scored the first goal, followed by a late first-half goal from Marcus Danielson. In the last minutes of the game, Danielson scored an own goal. France is currently top of group 3 followed by Portugal, Croatia and Sweden.
In Group four, Germany defeated Ukraine 3-1. Ukraine’s Roman Yaremchuk scored an early goal followed by goals from Germany’s Leroy Sane and Timo Werner. In the second half, Werner scored the third goal for his side.
Group four’s other two contenders Spain and Switzerland ended the game with a draw. Switzerland’s Remo Freuler scored the game’s first goal. In the second half, Spain was awarded two penalties and Sergio Ramos missed both of them. Switzerland’s Nico Elvedi was also sent off after a second yellow card. In the last minutes of the game, Spain’s Gerard Moreno managed to grasp a goal for his side. Germany is currently top of group four followed by Spain, Ukraine and Switzerland.
