Detroit Lions fire Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn

The Detroit Lions fired head coach Matt Patricia and general manager Bob Quinn on Saturday. The move comes after the Lions lost to the Houston Texans on Thanksgiving.

Patricia was in the middle of his third season with the Lions. The Lions won nine games and made the playoffs as a wild card in 2016 in the two seasons before Patricia was hired. However, since he was hired the Lions have struggled.

In Patricia’s first season the Lions went 6-10. Last year Detroit went 3-12-1, which was their worst record since 2010. This year they are 4-7. Patricia is 13-29-1 with the Lions. His .314 winning percentage with the Lions ranks 27th in the NFL.

Quinn has been the Lions general manager since 2016. During his tenure, the Lions were 31-43-1 and have been under .500 for three straight seasons. All five of Quinn’s first-round draft picks are still on the Lions roster.

Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell will be the Lions interim head coach.
