Harrison Ford To Return As Indiana Jones For 5th & Final Time

Harrison Ford, 78, is set to play Indiana Jones for the for the fifth and final time, Disney announced in a Tweet on Thursday.

Disney said that movie is being produced by Lucasfilm, and is currently in pre-production and slated to be released in July 2022. The director is James Mangold, who has also directed movies including The WolverineFord V Ferrari and Girl, Interrupted.

This fifth installment is set to be released 41 years after the first installment of the series, Raiders of the Lost Ark, which premiered in 1981. This movie will be the newest in the series since 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which came out almost 20 years after the previous installment: Indiana Jones and the Last CrusadeIndiana Jones and the Temple of Doom came out in 1984.

Ford teased the start of production on the movie earlier this year on Ellen.

“It’s going to be fun. I am excited,” he told Ellen DeGeneres in February. “They’re great fun to make.”

The Indy reveal came in a flurry of other Disney news as the company held its 2020 Disney Investor Day. Other important announcements included several animated TV shows based off of Disney’s popular movies ZootopiaPrincess and the FrogMoana and Big Hero 6. They also announced two The Mandalorian spin-off series: Rangers of the New Republic and Ahsoka, starring Rosario Dawson as Jedi Ahsoka Tano. In Marvel news, Disney announced that Iman Vellani will star as Ms. Marvel‘s Pakistani-American teen hero Kamala Khan in a new Disney+ series.
