Google outrage caused by 'storage quota issue'

Google applications suffered a service outage this week due to "an internal storage quota issue".

The tech giant's platforms - including Gmail, YouTube and Docs - were down for more than half an hour on Monday with users left unable to access many of the company's apps such as the Android Play Store, Maps and Google Drive.

However, the search engine was unaffected by the problem, which hit its authentication system, which handles log-ins and similar functions.

The outage also caused issues for Google-connected smart devices including Home speakers, which meant some users were unable to control certain appliances.
