FTC asks social media and video streaming platforms for info on ads and personal data

The Federal Trade Commission has asked for information from all major social media and video streaming platforms on how they deal with personal data.

The order - which was sent out on Monday (14.12.20) has requested relevant details from Facebook, WhatsApp, Snap, Amazon, Twitter, YouTube, Twitch, Reddit, Discord and TikTok owner ByteDance.

The online giants have been asked how they collect, use and track personal demographic information, and how the policies impact minors.

As reported by CNET, the companies have 45 days to respond.

The FTC is specifically looking into how companies choose ads for their users, whether algorithms or data analytics with personal information are used, and how user engagement is measured and researched.
