After over a decade of playing for some of Counter-Strike’s best organizations, major winner Christopher “GeT_RiGhT” Alesund has announced his plans to take a step back from the game’s esports scene. The announcement came on January 16 with a tweet from GeT_RiGhT's current team, DIGNITAS, where the player will stay as he begins a full-time streaming career. According to the tweet and its accompanying media, GeT_RiGhT will host his own “cinematic, live stream universe” under the organization.
GeT_RiGhT leaves CSGO as an all-time great
GeT_RiGhT started his competitive career in 2007 with Gamepassion before spending time on Ninjas in Pyjamas, SK Gaming, and fnatic in CS 1.6’s later years. He would return to esports in 2012 after Valve released CSGO as a rifler for Ninjas in Pyjamas’s debut roster.
It's difficult to separate CSGO’s early esports scene from GeT_RiGhT and NiP’s dynasty during that time. Between the game’s release in 2012 and his last CSGO major grand finals appearance at ESL One Katowice 2015, GeT_RiGhT was ranked the world’s number-one player two times, attended four Major grand finals, and won a Major title by defeating a powerful fnatic squad at ESL One Cologne 2014.
Throughout his CSGO career, GeT_RiGhT has amassed 32,791 kills over a total of 1,718 maps, good for a 1.09 all-time rating. While the current CSGO landscape will likely see today's stars eclipse GeT_RiGhT’s numbers by the end of their own careers, there is one number that today’s they will be hard-pressed to take away from him.
In what many recognize as the longest streak in competitive esports history, GeT_RiGhT was an instrumental part of NiP’s historic, and still unbeaten, 87-0 map win streak. And while some players might have used that as a launching point for a cult of personality, GeT_RiGhT has always been a humble, genuinely talented player who will be missed. At least that much is clear, as a tweet from fellow CSGO pro player Richard "shox" Papillion shows.
While a December teaser initially hinted that GeT_RiGhT might switch to Valorant, the player told HLTV that as a content creator for DIGNITAS, he would “play a variety of games on stream." It’s likely that fans will see him back in a CSGO server as a streamer at some point in his new job. Given the player's geniuine passion for the game, it's likely fans will see him still playing with the best in the world in a FACEIT setting.
