Bumble reinstates political preferences filter

Bumble has reinstated its political preferences filter.

The dating app has gone on its decision to disabled the feature "to prevent misuse" following the US Capitol riots.

After the violence, there were reports of some users switching the filter to find people who took part, and then report them to the authorities.

Bumble had recently said people had used it in a way that was "contrary to our terms and conditions".

They added on Twitter: "We've temporarily removed our politics filter to prevent misuse.

"However, please rest assured that we prohibit any content that promotes terrorism or racial hatred, and we've already removed any users that have been confirmed as participants in the attack of the US Capitol."

However, after backlash from users they have now reversed the decision and reinstated the filter within 24 hours, which allows people to display their chosen political views and then sort their matches accordingly.

Meanwhile Match Group - which owns the likes of Tinder, Hinge, Plenty of Fish and OKCupid - has banned "any users wanted by the FBI in connection with domestic terrorism" from all of its platforms.
