The Call of Duty League’s commissioner has confirmed that Warzone will work its way further into CDL Competition this year.
Activision had one of their best years ever in 2020. This couldn't have been done without Warzone's meteoric rise, and its esports scene. Some of Warzone’s sports competitions have boasted over 300K concurrent viewers — showing the true power of the competitive Call of Duty community.
As the Call of Duty League and Warzone grew in popularity together, they joined. The CDL hosted their “Warzone Weekend” competitions. These were private matches between the professional players, with cash up for grabs each week.
In an interview with Screenrant, Johanna Faries, the CDL’s commissioner revealed that Warzone will be integrated even more into the CDL “as early as this season.” Faries went on to say how they have “taken the off-season to think bigger about what a more structured investment could look like.” and said how “there are really exciting things to come.”
With the Call of Duty League’s Warzone Weekends being a success last season; it's understandable why they would want to integrate the two further. The CDL is also home to some of the best Warzone players out there; with former CDL professionals such as Rhys “Rated” Price and Thomas “Tommey” Trewren going on to be some of the most successful Warzone players.
