Two Cleveland Browns players, left tackle Jedrick Wills, and receiver Rashard Higgins were cited for drag racing in Westlake, Ohio.
According to the police report, two cars were stopped at 9:26 am earlier this month. In addition to the drag racing citations, the report noted something suspected to be marijuana was actually found in the car.
This is not the first time that police have cited Wills for a traffic-related situation before. The Ohio State Highway patrol gave him a ticket for going 82 mph in a 60 mph zone back on Nov. 21. There were no disciplinary actions for this issue.
Both of the players responded differently on social media. Higgins made a joke about the situation when he tweeted, “Foot slipped, srry,” and “Was Tryna get away from Covid,” before he deleted both tweets. In comparison, Wills defended what happened and called the incident a small game he was playing with a friend.
The Cleveland Browns are aware of the incident and will be taking whatever actions are necessary. “We are aware of the incident, will gather more information, and handle this matter appropriately,” the team said in a statement.
Both Wills and Higgins are essential pieces of the Browns team. Wills, the No. 10 overall draft pick in the 2020 NFL draft, started 15 games this season. Higgins, a fifth rounder from the 2016 draft, became a starter as Odell Beckham Jr. fell to injuries.
