Cloud9 is advancing to finals of the 2021 LCS Lock In after completing a reverse sweep against 100 Thieves.
Cloud9 put on a show on Friday and secured its spot in the finals. The team completed a reverse sweep that included two pentakills by bot laner Jesper "Zven" Svenningsen. Cloud9 knocked off the tournament favorite 100 Thieves and is looking now like the frontrunner for the title.
100 Thieves had everything under control in games one and two. The team took two clean victories and headed into game three confident. The third match of the series was the beginning of the end for 100 Thieves.
The key to Cloud9’s victories was adapting to 100 Thieves' drafts. Cloud9 took the time to understand its opponent and how to outsmart them in the drafting stage. Cloud9 knew that the priority was to keep mid laner Tanner “Damonte” Damonte from roaming. The solution would be to match Damonte’s roaming ability.
Once Cloud9 figured out the perfect composition, 100 Thieves couldn’t recover. In the end, 100 Thieves would end up becoming its own worst enemy. The team, which had a clean start in the series, kept making costly mistakes. Cloud9 took every opportunity to punish 100 Thieves and never slowed down. Cloud9 set the pace of the game and 100 Thieves did its best to follow, but it wasn’t enough.
Cloud9 advances to the finals where it will meet the winner between Evil Geniuses and Team Liquid.
100 Thieves looking good ahead of LCS 2021
Despite the result in the LCS Lock In semifinals, the 100 Thieves players can be proud of their performance. Throughout the tournament, 100 Thieves had consistent performances and is looking like one of the best teams heading into the 2021 LCS Spring Split.
