Ohio State Reps Jon Cross (R-Ohio) and Reggie Stoltzfus (R-Ohio) sent an internal memo asking for cosponsors for a bill that would make June 14th a Ohio state holiday called “President Donald J. Trump Day.”
The memo said, “Let’s show the 3,154,834 Ohio voters (a record and historic number of votes received for President in Ohio) who cast their ballot to re-elect Donald J. Trump that we as a legislature recognize the accomplishments of his administration and that the Ohio House believes it is imperative we set aside a day to celebrate one of the greatest presidents in American history.”
June 14th is already Flag Day, the day the original American flag was adopted on June 14, 1777. When asked, Ohio State Rep Jeff Crossman (D-Ohio) said, “I don’t like the idea of changing an existing federal holiday that honors the flag, I think it’s disrespectful.”
While home states of former presidents do often celebrate the birthday of presidents like Illinois which celebrates Barack Obama’s birthday, and California which celebrates Ronald Reagan’s birthday, Trump is not from Ohio.
