Robert F Kennedy Jr's Instagram account removed over anti-vax posts

Robert F Kennedy Jr's Instagram account has been removed after he made false claims about coronavirus and vaccines.

The photo-sharing platform has confirmed it opted to remove the account of Kennedy Jr - the nephew of late President John F Kennedy - because he'd been "repeatedly sharing debunked claims".

However, his account on Facebook - which owns Instagram - remains active and he's posted similar claims on that platform.

Kennedy Jr has previously attended anti-lockdown protests and his videos have also been posted in a various languages, meaning he has a broad reach on social media.

However, Kerry Kennedy Meltzer, a physician and Kennedy Jr's niece, has already rubbished his claims.

Meanwhile, Facebook recently issued an apology after rejecting an advert that was intended to encourage black and Asian people to have a coronavirus vaccine.

Businessman Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones hoped to encourage more people to accept the vaccine, but his efforts were rejected by the social media giant because the content - which included a photo of Emmanuel-Jones being vaccinated - was deemed to be "shocking".

A Facebook spokesperson said: "Our team processes millions of posts and images daily and occasionally we make a mistake. We have restored the ad and apologise to Mr Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones for any inconvenience caused."

Emmanuel-Jones - who owns a farm in Devon in England - was eager to "raise awareness" about the vaccine and to encourage more people to accept the jab.

He said: "I have a high profile within the black community and there is a real issue with black and Asian people getting the vaccines, so I thought that there needs to be a counter to the anti-vax brigade."
