It seems that all hope is not lost for Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer fans. The legendary player has recently refuted the claims of a prompt retirement.
Most recently, numerous reports of Olofmeister's retirement from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive started to surface after FaZe Clan's in-game leader Marcelo "coldzera" David revealed that Olofmeister will take his leave from CSGO soon.
"The next step will be to replace olofmeister, who will retire. He doesn't want to play Counter-Strike anymore," said coldzera.
Olofmeister himself has hinted at his retirement several times before. However, in BLAST Premier Spring's post-match interview, the CSGO veteran renounced the reports and said that he's still not made a final decision regarding his career in CSGO.
"I have retirement in my mind, but I haven't decided on anything yet. I see a lot of people writing and I don't want to say anything until it all becomes official. But I haven't made my mind up yet, so I just want to say that," said Olofmesiter.
Olofmeister's statement came in after his incredible performance against Team Liquid in BLAST Premier spring groups, where the CS specialist finished off the game with 1.36 rating. His highlight-worthy clutches and opening kills on Dust 2 evoked LAN days' memories when Olofmeister led CSGO charts. The legendary veteran outplayed Team Liquid's schemes, propelling FaZe to victory.
BLAST Premier spring will be Olofmeister's last tournament with FaZe
Olofmeister may reconnect to CSGO servers but this tournament would be his last in FaZe's jersey. In a pre-game interview, coldzera announced that their stand-in would step down permanently from the team's roster, to make space for a new in-game leader.
Olofmeister's on-and-off journey with FaZe will come to an end with the BLAST Premier spring series. The 29-year-old has an extensive record in CSGO as one of the greatest players to exist. Olofmeister joined FaZe Clan as the best player of 2015 after a successful tenure in Fnatic where he became a two-time Major winning champion.
His departure from FaZe Clan will likely change a lot as the team is already going through several other adjustments. Janko "YNk" Paunović's exit had left the team without a coach to steer the players in a direction. Nikola "NiKo" Kovač's move to G2 esports weakened FaZe's leadership to a great extent. The office for a leader remains empty until a new IGL or a coach joins FaZe.
All the reports and developments hint towards Finn "karrigan" Andersen as the latest addition to FaZe's updated roster, an acquisition that will likely stabilize the team.
It remains to be seen how the roster swaps impact FaZe's performance in the coming tournaments. Olofmeister's announcement of not retiring soon does confirm that he may continue his journey, although it won't be with FaZe.
