Fortnite: FNCS Season 5 Champion JannisZ Signs With Guild Esports

The latest European FNCS Champion found a new home.

Guild Esports could not have asked for a better start to its Fortnite Battle Royale endeavor. After officially entering the competitive scene in the fall of 2020, Guild scored some of the European scene's most impressive talents. The United Kingdom-based esports organization began its journey with multiple-time FNCS Finalists Nikolaj "Flikk" Andreas Frøsle and Henrik "Hen" Mclean, the latter of which just won the Season 5 Championship. Guild followed those two acquisitions with Anas "Anas" El-Abd followed by ESTNN's 2020 Player of the Year and Two-Time FNCS Champion - Tai "TaySon" Starčič. The David Beckham co-owned brand is continuing its talent grab in the EU Fortnite scene. Guild has officially announced FNCS Chapter 2 - Season 5 Champion Jannis "JannisZ" Matwin as its newest member.

Guild Adds JannisZ to Impressive Roster

)

Like his former duo partner TaySon, JannisZ emerged in 2020 as one of the best Fortnite players. However, some fans might overlook his 13th and 9th place finishes at DreamHack Winter 2019 and FNCS Chapter 2 - Season 1. The Germany-native made the best of 2020, where he elevated himself into Europe's upper-echelon. JannisZ qualified for every Fortnite Champion Series Grand Final last year. His crowning achievement was winning the FNCS Invitational in Chapter 2 - Season 2.

The 15-year-old collected $120k for his career-defining victory. JannisZ's trio finished runner-up in FNCS Chapter 2 - Season 4 before claiming his second Axe of Champions alongside Chapix and fellow Guild member Hen in Chapter 2 - Season 5. All three players earned $100k each, making JannisZ one of the wealthiest Fortnite players of the last two years. It's been quite a run for the young German, who joins arguably the best roster in Fortnite.

The Best Lineup in Fortnite?

Guild's Director of Esports, Grant Rousseau, is growing an impressive collection of players. He commented on the addition of JannisZ in a press release.

"We've already reached new heights in 2021 with our first major trophy - but to be the best, you need to keep on building and setting new goals and challenges," he said. "Signing JannisZ is part of this continuous growth - he's an exceptional player, and will further strengthen an already dominant Guild EU Fortnite team. We're looking forward to welcoming JannisZ to the squad, and bringing home more trophies for Guild this year."

JannisZ also spoke about joining Guild Esports and what he hopes the decision will bring. "I've achieved a lot in Fortnite - but it was a real highlight to win the recent FNCS trios with Hen. I've gotten to know the Guild squad well, through tournaments and the Lockdown Ladder," he said. "Joining the organisation and playing alongside some of the best players in the world was an amazing opportunity to take the next step in my career. I'm looking forward to doing my part to bring Guild Esports even more success."

With TaySon, Anas, Flikk, Hen and JannisZ on the Guild squad, 2021 could be a long year for every other organization. Three of those five have already won an FNCS Championship, and there's no sign of them slowing down. It'll be interesting to see which unsigned talent Guild may pursue next, but the addition of JannisZ is massive for the organization and scene.
