Twitter 'testing emoji reactions'

Twitter is reportedly testing emoji reactions.

Currently, users can only 'like' a tweet, comment or reply using the love heart symbol, but the microblogging site has been asking its users about adding more reaction options.

As reported by TechCrunch, the survey included some sets of reactions and asked users which they preferred.

Five of them featured in all sets - Like, Funny, Sad, Interesting and Awesome - with commonly used emojis, while the other two had different descriptions.

In one set, they were known as Support or Angry, but others had them replaced by Agree and Disagree.

However, the platform also questioned the implications of introducing 'downvoting' or disliking tweets, and users were asked how they would react to receiving negative reactions.

Social media platforms have addressed this issue to various degrees in the past.

It's been argue that having one reaction makes things easier to measure, and they can thus be used to compare the success of a post.

Instagram hid the likes counter from viewers to combat this.
