Eddie Izzard likens her gender identity to being a superhero

Eddie Izzard has a "superhero" approach to her identity.

The 59-year-old comedian - who recently completed 32 marathons and performed 31 comedy gigs in just 31 days in support of charity - has revealed she has a "boy mode and girl mode" for different aspects of her life.

Eddie explained: "I’m gender fluid so if people don’t know ... I came out in 1985 so it was years ago, 36 years ago and I’ve always said boy mode and girl mode.

"I see it as a superhero thing so I have boy mode and girl mode and I’m doing stand-up in girl mode and I’m doing activism in girl mode and I’m running my marathons in girl mode.

"But my dramatic acting is probably going to be in boy mode."

Eddie also admitted to having a contradictory approach when it comes to her politics.

The comedy star observed that she's both "a radical and a moderate".

She told 'Drive with Mark Dolan' on talkRADIO: "I’m for humanity, I’m for live and let live, I’m for make humanity great again - these are my projects.

"I’m a radical and a moderate. I do radical things with a moderate message - those are my political beliefs."

Despite having strong beliefs, Eddie remains open to playing characters that she doesn't like.

The 'Six Minutes to Midnight' star said: "The projects that I will do going on will be good stories. And they might have a message - they might be something - I doubt I will have a message that’s very nihilistic in any film I do.

"But I could well play characters that are horrible characters ... So I’m going to be happy to play characters that I don’t like, that I agree with, that I disagree with, and if I’m doing the project, I will just try to make it work as a project."
