Heller Answers His 3 Burning Questions: New Orleans Saints

Prior to the 2020 NFL season, three questions were posed for each of the 32 teams. This is the recap and answers to those questions for the New Orleans Saints.

Did Brees Really Need Another Weapon?

Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders signed with the Saints in the offseason. The plan was for Sanders to be the team’s No. 2 receiver, along with Michael Thomas, making life that much easier for the future Hall of Fame signal-caller, Drew Brees. Thomas only started five games this season and only accumulated 438 yards receiving and no touchdowns. So the duo that had the potential to be one of the more exciting to watch never got much of a chance. The three-time Pro Bowler was battling back from injury and also had a couple off the field issues with the team.

Can the Defense be a Stout One?

Defensively, the Saints were in the top five in both yards and points allowed. Veteran defensive end Cameron Jordan earned his fourth straight Pro Bowl selection. Strong safety Malcolm Jenkins, in his second stint in New Orleans, where he spent his first five seasons since they took him 14th overall in the 2009 NFL Draft.

Can Kamara go Four-for-Four?

Running back Alvin Kamara provided more than his share of the team’s offensive yards and touchdowns, which has become the norm in the Big Easy. He ended the season with 1,688 total yards from scrimmage and 21 total touchdowns. Six of those touchdowns came on Christmas Day, all on the ground. Kamara was selected to his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl in his fourth NFL season.
