Riot Games has finally unveiled the next upcoming champion to arrive in League of Legends. Announced through a video teaser, Gwen, the Hallowed Seamstress, a magical doll imbued with the power to wield needles and a giant scissor, is the newest AP-based top-lane League of Legends champion. Gwen is the 155th character, right behind the recently-released Ruined King Viego.

There’s not too much information about the new champion yet. However, Riot Games teased lore ties with Viego. Her story as a magical doll takes an interesting turn from going dormant as a doll to rising from the depths to something much more.

Isolde, the wife of Viego, created the doll now known as Gwen. Isolde was later killed and Viego grew into madness trying to figure out how to revive his loved one. Forgotten and swept away, the doll was left to sink to the bottom of the sea in the Shadow Isles. After laying dormant, one day the reanimated doll emerged as Gwen with tremendous power. Although once a toy, Gwen became a powerful seamstress who wields needles and a giant scissor with only one mission at hand – figure out her dark past and take down evil.
Gwen’s League of Legends Abilities
The new League of Legends champion, Gwen, hasn’t had her abilities detailed yet, but Riot Games did release a gameplay trailer right after the teaser. She is a top-lane AP magic-damage champion who excels with movement and burst damage at close-range.

Gwen’s passive seems to be a marking ability that allows her and teammates to proc status effects on enemies or even extra damage. She also holds an active ability that slices enemies with her scissors. To cut the distance, she can use a short dash in any direction. Additionally, with more skills she uses, she gains needle stacks. Gwen can fire needles at a max of five stacks towards an enemy. Lastly, her ultimate places down a large blue field that buffs her movement, attack speed, or even cooldown reduction for non-ultimate abilities.
Gwen’s release date into League of Legends is unknown, but she will surely spice up top-lane with her new kit and style. Fans can stay tuned as Riot Games releases more information on the newly-announced Hallowed Seamstress.
