Heller Answers His 3 Burning Questions: Buffalo Bills

Prior to the 2020 NFL season, three questions were posed for each of the 32 teams. This is the recap and answers to those questions for the Buffalo Bills.

If you want to look back at the previous article you can do that here

Can Singletary be as effective when he’s “the guy”?

Devin Singletary in his second NFL season accounted for 956 total yards from scrimmage, with just a pair of touchdowns. He shared the backfield with third-round pick Zack Moss, who himself rushed for 481 yards and four touchdowns. The stats are less a result of a sophomore slump for Singletary, but more of a result of the effectiveness of the passing offense.

Will this team and Josh Allen take the next step?

Allen in year three led the Bills to their first division title since 1995, a year before he was born. The Bills signal-caller was neck and neck with Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the MVP award for most of the season and came up short. The Bills lost in the AFC Championship game to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Allen finished his third campaign just 35 yards shy of 5,000 total for the season. 4,544 of that total being passing yards. He threw 37 touchdowns with just 19 interceptions. He added eight rushing touchdowns, as well as a receiving score.

Stefon Diggs, in his first season in Buffalo, recorded over 1,500 yards receiving and eight touchdowns.

Will the defense be able to duplicate last season’s success?

Buffalo’s defense was led by strong safety Jordan Potter who recorded 124 tackles, along with linebacker Tremaine Edwards who tallied 119 tackles. Overall the Bills defensively were ranked right around the middle of the league, although they played better than that ranking. Any mistakes or inadequacies on the defense were hidden behind the NFL’s number two overall offense that put up points most weeks seemingly at will.
