The General Manager of Cloud9’s CS:GO Division takes time off from esports.
"I will be back eventually when the right opportunity arises." This was Henry "HenryG" Greer’s last words as he announced through Twitter that he would be leaving Cloud9.
In his Tweet, he hinted at the reasons for his departure. "It's truly a shame how things panned out with a lot of mitigating circumstances but plenty of positive memories, too."
These "mitigating circumstances" might have been Cloud9’s CS:GO division being put on hold due to an early exit in the ESL Pro League Season 13. Cloud9 ended in the Lower Bracket of Group C with a 2-3 win-loss record. In fact, Gambit Esports finished on top of their group. They'll go forward to the Playoffs together with FURIA Esports (3-2) and Natus Vincere (3-2).
The team was also heavily affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Because of it, they were unable to gather their team in North America and build the needed rapport. This forced them to transfer their players and ended with the division being shelved.
HenryG started in Cloud9 in September 2020. He created Cloud9’s “Colossus” roster which initially featured Alex "ALEX" McMeekin, Özgür "woxic" Eker, and William "mezii" Merriman as its core trio and Aleksandar "kassad" Trifunović as coach.
Cloud9 retained Ricky "floppy" Kemery from its former roster and recruited Patrick "es3tag" Hansen from Astralis to complete the roster. This roster later found difficulties. Kassad left, and unreliable connection speeds and incompatible time zones forced woxic out of the team. They signed on Erick "Xeppaa" Bach but the team had inconsistent results as they had difficulty filling the sniper role.
Through his last words, HenryG seems to be calling out other teams who might find his exit from Cloud9 as their opportunity.
