By crossing art and esports, BMW Esports hopes to reach even more people. After a full year of investment in esports, the company is now able to provide something unique. Like the new Dota 2 anime, this new manga should be on the top of esports enthusiasts’ watch list.

Heroes of Rivalry

Heroes of Rivalry is a manga written by Japanese artist Acky Bright. In it, all teams under the BMW Esports flag are heroes within a fantasy world. Although they are usually rivals, they must find common ground in order to surpass various obstacles. OG Esports, Cloud9, Fnatic, FunPlus Phoenix, G2 Esports, and T1 will team up as main protagonists in an isekai-genre manga.

There will be eight episodes total, released both on its official website and BMW Esports’ social media. This project combines talent from all around the world, involving Japanese artist Acky Bright, who created the storyline and concept, and Jung von Matt in Germany.

“The superheroes in our manga not only develop great power in their adventure, but they also inspire the imagination of every single person,” Vice President of Brand Experience at BMW Stefan Ponikva said. “There is something magical about manga; it touches peoples’ hearts.”

BMW Esports United in Rivalry

Since 2020, BMW Esports created a special link with some of the best esports teams out there. The automobile company invested in the League of Legends scene and also had representatives in racing simulations. Adding Dota 2 world champions OG Esports and Heroes of Rivalry manga shows how committed the brand is. As time goes by, esports is taking more and more place in BMW’s marketing strategies.

This time, the idea of gathering teams united in rivalry is a genius idea for storytelling. Usually, companies don’t take risks with their marketing activations. Combining the manga and esports fanbase should also be a win-win situation. Some might discover esports through that lens, while others might enjoy mangas. BMW is making big moves with OG Esports and the other five teams it partnered with in the Heroes of Rivalry manga.
