The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has called on Fox News to fire their network’s host Tucker Carlson following a segment where the host made allusion to a white supremacist theory of whites being at risk of “replaced” by non-whites, known as the “Great Replacement Theory.”

“Given his long record of race-baiting, we believe it is time for Carlson to go,” said ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt in their open letter to Fox News. “Last night, in a segment on his program dealing with voting rights and allegations of voter disenfranchisement, Tucker Carlson disgustingly gave an impassioned defense of the white supremacist ‘great replacement theory,’ the hateful notion that the white race is in danger of being ‘replaced’ by a rising tide of non-whites.”

“Make no mistake: this is dangerous stuff. The “great replacement theory” is a classic white supremacist trope that undergirds the modern white supremacist movement in America,” Greenblatt continued. “It is a concept that is discussed almost daily in online racist fever swamps.”

Greenblatt then listed several examples of racist speech from Carlson including when “In December 2018, Carlson suggested immigrants make the U.S. ‘dirtier,’ and ‘Carlson has attacked ethnic diversity in this country, saying, in 2018, that it was ‘radically and permanently’ changing America for the worse.”

It is exceedingly unlikely that Fox will take action against Carlson, who is the network’s most popular host. The ADL, however, is an influential voice in identifying hate speech. After a 2020 ADL report showing increased anti-Semitic speech on the platform, Facebook added Holocaust denial as a form of hate speech in their community guidelines.
