James Norton: Sex scenes can cause trauma for actors

James Norton thinks intimate scenes can cause “trauma” for actors.

The 35-year-old actor wants filmmakers to give actors full control over their sex scenes to help them feel comfortable when they are nude on camera.

He told GQ Hype magazine: "There is so much potential for trauma. Everyone is sensitive about their naked body, so if you are going to have a sex scene, write 'sex scene' and have actors say what they're comfortable with.

"We're so used to seeing female nudity that when you see a c*** you go, 'This is so explicit!' But it's just balanced."

The 'Grantchester' hunk is reportedly in the running to play the next 007 in the 'James Bond' film franchise, as Daniel Craig has retired the role after 15 years as the womanising spy.

However, at the time of the rumours, the star shot down reports saying that whilst it's "quite flattering" to hear the rumours about him, they are "pure speculation".

Asked about the possibility of him taking on the suave spy, he said last year: "It's crazy. It's not real. It's speculative. There is no truth behind it. Unless journalists know something more than I do. It's bizarre and quite flattering to be even considered in that world, but beyond that? Pure speculation."

'Bridgerton' heartthrob Regé-Jean Page and 'Luther' star Idris Elba are also rumoured to be in the running to become the first black Bond but James believes it would be more beneficial to create a whole new film franchise with a diverse cast.

In his interview with GQ Hype, he added: "That, I think, is more important. Obviously, casting a Bond of colour is important if handled in a sensitive way, but there's a bigger picture: we need to treat the cause rather than the symptom.

"There is an argument, that, rather than make Bond a person of colour, why not create a new story that is authentically representative and isn't repurposed?

"But, then, you're never going to create a franchise that will compete with the power of Bond from the off. It has to be a bit of everything, doesn't it? I realise I'm talking in platitudes."
