Nintendo reveals plan for 'immediate' Switch production

Nintendo has been able to secure enough semiconductors for "immediate" production of the Switch console.

Shuntaro Furukawa, Nintendo's president, has provided an update on the production of hardware for the well-known console, but has warned that there could still be shortages later this year due to high demand from consumers.

Speaking to Nikkei, Shuntaro explained: "We have been able to secure the necessary materials for the immediate production of semiconductors for switches.

"However, in Japan and other countries, demand has been very strong since the beginning of the year, and there is a possibility of shortages at some retailers in the future.

"It is difficult to say how we will deal with this, but in some cases we may not be able to prepare enough for orders."

There has been a global shortage of semiconductors since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

And the issue has proven to be a major headache for the games industry.

Jim Ryan, the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment, previously admitted that a shortage of semiconductors led to an issue with PlayStation 5 consoles.

He shared: "Demand was greater than we anticipated. That, along with the complexities of the supply chain issues, resulted in a slightly lower supply than we initially anticipated."
