Facebook News Feed improvements

Facebook wants to improve users' News Feed experience.

The company is looking to gather more feedback from users about the posts they see on the social networking platform, and use that information to improve how the content is displayed.

The company is running global tests to survey people and find out which posts are inspirational, which are seen as the material users prefer to see.

Facebook will also ask people about the amount of posts they see about specific topics.

In a blog post, the site added: "Even though your News Feed contains posts from the friends, Groups and Pages you've chosen to follow, we know sometimes even your closest friends and family share posts about topics that aren't really interesting to you, or that you don't want to see."

Facebook have also received feedback claiming there's too much political content on their News Feed, and "other kinds of posts and comments" which detract from their experience.

The company continued: "This is a sensitive area, so over the next few months, we'll work to better understand what kinds of content are linked with these negative experiences."

Another development sees Facebook testing a new design letting users click a cross in the top right corner of a post, which will hide it from their News Feed and limit similar posts in the future.

The company added: "While engagement will continue to be one of many types of signals we use to rank posts in News Feed, we believe these additional insights can provide a more complete picture of the content people find valuable, and we'll share more as we learn from these tests."
