Rep. Liz Cheney Calls Trump ‘A Threat We Have Never Seen Before’ In House Floor Speech

WASHINGTON, DC - FEBRUARY 13: House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) (R) listens to House Republican Conference Chair Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) during a news conference following a caucus meeting at the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center February...

In her last address as the Republican Conference Chair, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) declared that former President Donald Trump is a “threat we have never seen before,” and denounced his lies that the 2020 election was rigged.

“Remaining silent and ignoring the lie emboldens the liar,” Cheney said her House floor speech Tuesday. “I will not participate in that. I will not sit back and watch in silence while others lead our party down a path that abandons the rule of law and joins the former president’s crusade to undermine our democracy.”

“We must speak the truth,” Cheney said. “Our election was not stolen, and America has not failed.”

Cheney further showed that she would not waiver in the face of Republican backlash, then saying the former president incited “a violent attack on this Capitol in an effort to steal the election” warning that, “he risks inciting further violence.”

On Wednesday morning, Cheney was removed from her position as Republican Committee chair after a House Republican vote. She will be replaced with Rep. Elise Stafanik (R-New York) who has recently aligned herself closely with Trump allies like House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-California), who indicated in an interview that he supports Stefanik for the replacement.
