Netflix to make Martha Stewart documentary

Netflix has acquired the rights for a documentary on Martha Stewart.

The video streaming giant won the rights for a film based on “the life and times" of the 79-year-old businesswoman, which is set to be directed by 'Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry' director R.J. Cutler.

Cutler will also serve as a producer, alongside Trevor Smith, Jane Cha Cutler and Alina Cho, while Industrial Media’s This Machine label will produce the film with Elise Pearlstein as executive producer on their behalf.

While specifics are still unknown, the untitled documentary is expected to follow Stewart's early life in Jersey City as a babysitter to New York Yankees players Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra and her modelling career to becoming the founder of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia as one of the most recognisable media personalities in the US.

However, it is not yet known if her 2004 prison stint for insider trading will also be included in the film.

Meanwhile, the media mogul recently explained that the #MeToo movement has been "really painful" for her as she has known "almost every single one" of the men who were accused.

She said: "It has been really painful for me. I’ve known almost every single one of the famous guys that has been accused and set aside. "Some were certainly guilty of a lot of what was accused. But some were - it’s just their awful personalities. "I am not going to mention their names, but I know those people very, very well, and you know the man just talks about sex during dinner. That doesn’t mean anything to me."

Martha - who began working on Wall Street in the 1960s and 70s - admitted succeeding as a woman in business meant she had to tolerate some bad behaviour.

She added: “You had to keep your cool and just do your thing, and brush them away.”
