Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of former President Donald Trump, declared Saturday at the North Carolina GOP convention that she would not be running for Senate in 2022 while hinting at the possibility of a future bid. For months, Lara was rumored to be joining the Senate race in North Carolina.
“I am saying no, for now, not no forever,” Lara said Saturday.
Lara revealed that her young children are the main reason she chose not to run this time.
“When you do something, you give 100%. That is the only way to operate,” Lara said. “At the right time, I would absolutely love to come back and consider running for something here in my home state because I love it dearly.”
The former president, who was making his first major speech outside Florida since January, announced that he has endorsed Rep. Ted Budd (R-North Carolina) instead for the seat in 2022.
“He will fight like hell. He will fight like nobody fights,” Trump said.
