Microsoft changing Blue Screen of Death in Windows 11

Microsoft is reportedly changing its infamous Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) for Windows 11.

The tech giant has started testing new design changes in a preview this week, and it's said the BSOD will be switching from blue to black for the operating system.

As reported by The Verge, this change will match Windows 11's new black logon and shutdown screens.

Besides a new colour scheme, the screen will otherwise be identical to its predecessor.

However, it will still be the first big change to the BSOD since QR codes were added in 2016, and a sad face was introduced in Windows 8 nine years ago.

The screen itself first appeared in Windows 3.0, and it was brought in as a way to help IT and support personnel diagnose memory and hardware issues.

The BSOD usually also includes data to help system administrators figure out which system fault caused the screen.

Although there's no official word on why the change is happening, reports suggest it could be down to the team wanting the screen to match the visual overhaul elsewhere in the OS.
