The Pittsburgh Steelers have traded a late-round draft compensation to the Jacksonville Jaguars for linebacker Joe Schobert.

The linebacker signed a five-year, $53.75 million contract with the Jaguars last offseason. In his lone season with the Jaguars, he recorded 141 combined tackles with the team. It was the second-best of his career, only three tackles short of matching his Pro Bowl 2017 season. Schobert is due $7.3 million in guaranteed base salary for the 2021 season.

The former fourth-round pick has recorded 549 career tackles, 11 sacks, nine interceptions, 24 passes defended, nine forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

Schobert will fill the vacancy left at the Steelers’ linebacker position after veteran Vince Williams‘ surprise retirement just before training camp. Shoebert will be the second former Pro Bowler that the Steelers’ have acquired after they signed three-time Pro Bowler outside linebacker Melvin Ingram.

“I know he’s a phenomenal player,” outside linebacker Ingram said after the game. “I don’t know whether he’s coming here or not, but he’s a phenomenal player.”
