Fortnite Season 8: Cubed — Patch Notes, New Weapons, Sideways Map Changes & More!

Learn everything you need to know about Fortnite Season 8!

Fortnite Chapter 2 - Season 8 is officially underway after a lengthy 12-hour downtime. Epic Games transitioned from the alien-themed Season 7 yesterday with the season-ending Operation: Sky Fire live event. Players worldwide enlisted as part of Slone’s team, attempting to overthrow the hostile alien forces. The mysterious purple Cube, also known as Kevin the Cube, returned to the surprise of those who managed to avoid leaks.

Season 8 went live at 4 AM after Epic Games used the transition period wisely to tease what was waiting for players on the other side. Now, the new season, dubbed “Cubed,” is here and we have the complete rundown of everything new, including weapons, items, mechanics and more! Join us ESTNN takes in the latest installment to Fortnite Battle Royale!

Items & Weapons — New, Vaulted & Unvaulted

This new season puts every fan’s favorite Cubes into the limelight and introduces a “Sideways” concept. With that comes many new items for players to learn and explore. Some notable additions include new Sideways Chests, Rifles, Miniguns, Floppers, Crafting Parts and Mythic items.

Here is the complete rundown of all the new, vaulted and unvaulted items and weapons:

New

  • Zyg and Choppy's Ray Gun

Map Changes

)

Much to the surprise of Fortnite fans everywhere, the Season 8 map has not changed a whole lot despite the Alien Mothership exploding and several Cubes crash landing below. There are some subtle changes, but no new locations to land other than Corny Crops, which is just Corny Complex renamed.

Season 8’s map does feature minor corrupted areas known as Sideways Zones. The Sideways will overtake a particular point of interest (POI) each match, making them low-gravity and unfriendly to building. The two worlds are colliding, so more influence from the Sideways could take shape throughout the season.

It’s also worth noting that there are significantly more Reboot Vans on the map than in Chapter 2 - Season 7.

Victory Umbrella

)

Season 8’s Victory Umbrella represents Kevin the Cube’s purple appearance and even includes a tiny cube at the top. It’s one of the more unique gliders we’ve seen in recent seasons.

Punch Cards

)

Punch Cards have returned after leaving Fortnite in Chapter 2 - Season 5. These will offer an additional method of earning XP. While not a significant change, Punch Cards have been a fan-favorite addition for some time.

Quest Sharing

)

Quest Sharing appears to be a new feature in Chapter 2 - Season 8. Based on the description, players can auto-share quests with friends to compile Bars and use various phone booths and non-player characters (NPCs) across the island to start new quest lines. These can be shared with your party each game.

The Global Effort: Fans Unvault Weapons

)

Epic Games will introduce a new feature that allows players to decide what weapons return to the game throughout Season 8. Typically, Epic makes these decisions during the weekly patch updates. It seems the fan base shall have the chance to choose what weapons they want back in Fortnite.

Flying Animals

)

Fortnite leaker HYPEX has been hinting that flying animals will eventually play a part in Season 8. Those predictions have come to fruition in the form of Crows. While these may not be rideable or flyable, they are in the game nonetheless. Crows drop two meat when eliminated, and it seems more flying animals are in the plans for Season 8.

Bug Fixes

Here are all of the bugs addressed in patch v18.00:

Creative

  • Players granted items are unable to switch between weapon slots when using controller input.
